This collection of eight stories features women from different cities, living in different corners of Beijing, at different stages of life. The author writes about them while also reflecting on herself, her mother, her friends, and even women she has never met but has seen on television or in the news. All of them strive, in their own way, to live, endure, justify, hope, and rediscover themselves. The author writes not about their daily struggles and pain, but about time — how it flows, corrodes, and settles within women’s bodies. Through experiences of illness, aging, depression, and loss of voice, the author seeks a balance: not to explain, but to accompany; not to tell, but to be present; not to simplify, but to acknowledge complexity and weight.
